Game Day Spicy Meat dip

Jump to Recipe

Okay, so this spicy meat dip is a staple in our home for game day! This recipe actually came from my mom. She made it when I was a kid and I loved it. It is one of the first recipes I made for my husband and friends during the super bowl many years ago. It was a hit and we make it every year and not just for super bowl. It may not look like much, but it is packed with flavor! My Mom’s way of eating it was with club crackers and that’s how we always eat it although it tastes good with tortilla chips too.

Why You will love this recipe-

  • It is great for game day and makes a lot for a crowd!
  • This meat dip is flavor city!
  • Can be made ahead and just reheated

Ingredients you will need-

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1 pound of hot sausage (we use Jimmy Deans or tabasco sausage links)
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1/2 block Velveeta cheese
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • I can green chilies
  • 1/2 cup chopped pickled jalapeno (more or less for your spice level, we like it spicy)
  • splash of jalapeno juice
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

How to make-

Step 1. First cook the ground beef, spicy sausage, and chopped onions in a pot until browned and cooked through. Drain the grease off.

Step 2. Next add the Velveeta cheese into the meat mixture and let it melt. Then stir in the cream of mushroom soup until mixed in.

Step 3. After that you can add in the green chilies, diced jalapenos, a splash of the jalapeno juice, garlic powder, and cumin. Mix well and heat thoroughly and its done! Serve with club crackers or tortilla chips

Tips-

  • You can use any kind of sausage you like but I think the spicy kind really adds a lot more flavor and kick.
  • Make sure to drain the meat mixture of all grease. You don’t want the dip to be oily.
  • The spice level is up to you. My family likes it spicy, so we add more jalapenos than the recipe calls for.

Storage-

  • The meat dip can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to two days then reheated on the stove or microwave
  • Also, can be stored in the freezer for a couple of months and reheated on the stove or microwave
